Handling the high pollutant load of plastic washing lines #
Plastic washing lines use large amounts of water for de-labeling, crushing, and friction washing, producing wastewater with high turbidity, high suspended solids (SS), high oil, and organic matter. Functions and treatment process #
- Primary screening: Bar screens or filtration remove large plastic fragments and floating debris.
- Grit chamber and equalization tank: Stabilize influent flow and quality and prevent shock loads.
- DAF or coagulation-flocculation: Remove large amounts of suspended solids and oil and improve water clarity.
- Biological treatment (optional): Contact oxidation or MBR degrades COD and BOD.
- Filtration and disinfection: Sand filtration, activated carbon, UV, or sodium hypochlorite disinfection.
- Sludge treatment: Dewatering for off-site disposal or reuse, closing the loop.
